MEET THE SQUAD

Hugo

Hugo is the squadleader and THE dog this whole journey started with in September 2018. He was found on the street as a puppy, malnourished and walking funny. Takis Shelter took him in, but soon after his rescue he became paralyzed. It took him several months to walk again thanks to the efforts of the shelter and the volunteers working there.

Today he can walk again, yet his muscles are stiff unabling him to sit on his bummy. Also he will never fully recover of the braindamage he suffered from. But he's happy and that's what matters.

Perla

Perla was brought into the shelter a few months after Hugo. Takis found her chained in a monastery without food or water in the burning sun. We don't know her past but most likely she never experienced love and trust. From the moment she arrived at the shelter, she became best friends with Hugo. There was never doubt to seperate these two while considering Hugo's adoption.

So 1 became 2!

Perla is a happy dog, yet she can be very insecure. Her disability doesn't meet the eye, yet her scars are mentally.

Angel

While meeting Hugo for the first time, there was a tiny kitten in the shelter who's eyes just were removed. When Takis found her on the street, both her eyes were badly infected and couldn't be saved anymore. This brave, blind kitten stood her ground between all the other dogs and cats in the shelter. It took about 1 second to fall in love with her.

So 2 became 3!

Angel is still a braveheart and being blind doesn't stop her to explore and to enjoy life to the fullest.

Nine months passed by after meeting Hugo, Perla and Angel for the first time.

July 2019 we were ready to adopt!

Horus

Little did we know there would be a tiny pirate kitten, still having stitches from the eye that was removed, when we arived in the shelter. He immediatly cought our eye and stole our heart. Someone had found him on the street with a badly infected eye and brought him to the vet. When Takis walked in, Horus managed to escape so Takis decided to bring him to the shelter ... at the same moment we were there.

So 3 became 4!

Horus is a real pirate who loves to go on adventures. Unfortunately he gets into a lot of trouble and has ended up quiet a few times at the vet. But pirates do what pirates want, no?!

Elda

While preparing the journey for our 4 happy tails, there was a Parvo outbreak in the shelter. This deathly disease killed Lindy, one of two sister-puppies named Lindy and Cindy. We decided to adopt Cindy as well to keep her safe from this horrible fate and we renamed her Lilo. But it wasn't meant to be ... The day before we were leaving to Belgium, our little Lilo died as well. We were heartbroken.

Full of grief we agreed to foster Elda, a little puppy who was hit by a car and lost her front leg. That way we could keep her safe from Parvo and the flight-ticket of Lilo wouldn't be lost. It was a bittersweet thing to do ...

But the story of Elda turned out differently and we ended up adopting her as well.

So 4 became 5!

Elda has several nicknames now. People also know her by the name Tripple and because she's one ball of energy behaving like she has 6 legs, she sometimes goes by the nickname 'Demolition Elda'. Fun garanteed with this silly girl!

Petit Bertrand

May 2021, our newest member joined the squad. He was rescued by Simone, an amazing woman who learned Hugo to walk again after being paralyzed. When he was found, both his eyes were missing. When I was talking to Simone, the thought of adopting this little fellow warmed my heart and I could only think of the fact 'there is always room for one more'!

So 5 became 6!

Petit Bertrand is a handful because unlike Angel, who is very careful, he's a little brat who loves running and jumping. Learning him to use the stairs without falling down two floors took quiet some time. But when night falls, he's the sweetest, purring kitten you can wish for.
